Common Refrigerator Issues
Icemaker is not making ice
If your icemaker is either producing little, small, or crescent-shaped cubes or even no ice at all, then you do have a problem on your hands. An icemaker not making ice is a sign that the water supply has a clog, such as debris from the water supply tank or some frozen water in the line. These clogs should explain the lack of ice, as there is no water to freeze. If you are having very little ice, then your water line could be slowly freezing over, which you can easily correct.
You can remove the debris causing the clog by pouring some warm water in a turkey baster over the line or even a hair drier to melt the frozen water off. As you attempt to melt the frozen water, ensure that the fridge is turned off. If you have a massive clog in the line, you are advised to get professional help in getting it removed to avoid ruining the line. You may also find that your water filter for the ice is clogged, and you, therefore, need to replace the water filter.
Another piece you want to check is your water inlet valve, which supplies water to the icemaker from the household supply. If all the other pieces are in order, then the water pressure in your household may be too low. Confirm that your plumbing and overall water supply for your home is on, and that you are getting at least 20psi. Anything below this pressure will stop the valve from working. If you have ample water coming in and the valve is getting power, then you need to get this part of the machine replaced or fixed by a professional.
Your shutoff arm may also have been set off to stop the machine from making ice, as it should when it senses that the ice bucket is full. This metal bar is important to prevent an overproduction of ice, and you may have it without even knowing it. Another major reason why your icemaker will not work is having the fridge temperature is too warm. The freezer relies on its own coolness to create ice, and if this is the issue causing the lack of ice, you will notice that the ice does not freeze over adequately. You can confirm this using a thermometer or adjust the thermostat. If none of these measures work, call our professional crew to inspect the icemaker for advanced technical issues.
Icemaker is making too much ice
If you have this potentially messy problem, then your shutoff switch or arm is not working. Check to see whether it has been knocked off its position and is now stuck down instead of up. If this is not the case, this arm may require professional attention as it is probably broken and is therefore not receiving the signal to stop.
Ice is stuck
You are sure that the machine is making ice and you can hear it drop into the bucket, where there is already a sizeable pile of it. However, whenever you press the button, no ice falls into your cup. This problem may be caused by a blocked ice chute, where some ie may have refrozen there and blocked additional ice from coming through. You can readily unblock this using a wooden spoon by prying gently to avoid damage. Another problem may be a failing ejector gear or motor, which may have to be replaced by a professional who will know the right make and model for your refrigerator and will source them from a reliable supplier.
Icemaker is leaking
You may find that your icemaker is making ice (or not), but there is water pooling right below it or even below the refrigerator, which poses a threat to the rest of the food and creates the risk of electric shock or falls. First, check that your fridge is level, as even the slightest angle can cause the incoming water to spill through. Consider propping the fridge’s feet to ensure it remains straight up. You also want to ensure that the ice mold and fill cup supplying the mold with water are level to avoid spilling. If these are in order, check the water supply or inlet; if the line has come loose or is seriously damaged, then this is the source of your leak. Consider getting a professional to replace it for you with a reliable piece that will fit your icemaker.
If you have turned off your refrigerator and checked the water supply and nothing seems to correct the problem, then look to us to correct the problem in the shortest time possible.
